As a Sister of Notre Dame, I strive to witness God's goodness and loving care through compassionate ministry to others. What wonderful opportunities I had to do that as a teacher in two Catholic elementary schools and principal in four, all in the northeast Ohio area.
I grew up in Chesterland, the eldest of Goldie and Joe Koesel's four children. I attended Chester Elementary and Junior High, Regina High School, St. John College in Cleveland, and the University of Minnesota.
One of my greatest privileges was serving on an annual retreat team for seven years at the Grafton Correctional Institution. During the past 40 years, I have also accompanied individual offenders through correspondence or visits. Through these experiences I have becoming increasingly aware of the innate goodness and value of every person. In mutual sharing, we realize the human weakness we all share and our deepest desire to know and live life's meaning and purpose.
Among other activities, during the past three years, living at our Notre Dame Educational Center in Chardon, I have participted in activities for our Sisters in health care, coordinated hospitality to Afghan families temporarily living on our property as they waited permanent housing in the Cleveland area, and advocated in Columbus for legislation at the state level.
With great joy, I join the team bringing renewed faith, hope, and purpose to our homeless friends at GFRM.
